Searching For Books In Discovere

discoverE is our library's online catalog.  To find books in the library, use this Catalog.  You can also find databases, journals, documents and other type resources from it as well.  Here is the info as to how to use it:

From the Catalog tab in discoverE:

  • Type in your keywords
  • When you get some results, use "Refine Search Results" on the left to narrow your search by author, item type, date and more.

Too many search results?

  • Add additional terms to your search
  • Limit your search by item type, exact phrase, and/or author/title/subject using discoverE's drop-down menus
  • Use discoverE's "Refine Search Results" feature (in the left column)

Too few results?

  • Remove some terms from your search
  • Add synonyms using OR [in upper case] with parentheses - for example (women OR woman OR female)

Off-topic results?

Consult the discoverE help page for further tips.

If a book you are looking for is at Oxford College library, in Storage or checked out, you can always use the "Request" function to recall it.  When the item is ready for you to pick up in the general library, you'll receive an email notice.

Other Library Catalogs

If you can't find the book you need from our library, that's not the end of it.  You can continue your search at WorldCat, the online catalog of books and other materials held by the libraries almost all over the world.  You can retrieve the book you found from WorldCat through Interlibrary Loan.

Worldcat

Another catalog you can use is GIL, which stands for GALILEO Interconnected Libraries for the University System of Georgia.

GIL Universal Catalog

You can check out the book you found from GIL through Interlibrary Loan.

Getting Books Emory does Not Own

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a borrowing service for Emory students, faculty, and staff.
If a book, an article, a DVD, or any other resource that you need is not owned by Emory, the ILL team will try to get a copy from another library for you. It is a free service, but it will take about two weeks to diliever the material to you.  So, start your research earlier just in case you need to use this service.
