Women's Gender, and Sexuality Studies Research Guide: Locating Book Reviews

This is a general overview of resources in the field.

Basic Information

Know Author's name, Book title and Publication year
IIf you need to find this information, go to either:
Books in Print , (latest edition at Reference Desk Z1215 .P972) or WorldCat

Book Review Index

Book Review Index

The best way to find book reviews for your novels is by using a PRINT REFERENCE book:

Book Review Index REFERENCE Z1219 .B63

It is in the REFERENCE book shelves -- on the main floor across from the Library Service Desk.

You will have to look through several volumes to find all the reviews for your book. Start with the year your book was published and then look at the following years until you get no more reviews.

So how do you find a review listed in the BRI?

  1. Search the journal title (Example: London Review of Books) in ejournals first.
  2. If we do NOT have the issue electronically, search discoverE for the journal title.
  3. IF the title is in print only OR in microfilm you will have to choose "View this item in library catalog" to get the microfilm number or to see what issues we have in print.

Book Reviews & Critical Reception

These library databases provide access to SOME book reviews and critical reception of literary authors (and other things too)! You will probably have too look at the biographical information or work overviews to find the critical reception information.
