Assigned Individual Carrels

Who is eligible for an individual carrel?

  • Graduate students in Arts & Sciences
  • Undergraduate students writing honors theses

How long are individual carrels assigned to one person?
    Three semesters/one year.

How does one apply for an individual carrel?
Submit applications to the Administration Office Room 316.  Contact Jamie Weems with questions at 7-5103 or jdweems@emory.edu

Are assigned carrels guaranteed for the dates indicated on the application?
Unfortunately, no.  Due to high demand, there is usually a waiting list.  Assignments are made according to the date the applications are received in the administration office.  You will be notified as soon as a carrel becomes available.

Note: The library intentionally does not assign every single carrel.  We intentionally leave many carrels open and available for general use.

How big is an individual carrel?  What is included in it?
Individual study carrels are approximately 3' x 5' and they come with a built-in desk, shelves, chair, and small locker with a built-in combination lock.  The combination to the lockers are changed when newly assigned.
