This guide is designed to assist students with their research for Professor Yannakakis's Fall 2017 course

Your assignment

FINAL PAPER (2000 words, with 50 word margin up or down)

A short research paper on a topic or theme related to the History of Mexico (you must clear the topic with me).

You are required to build your research paper around a primary source or set of primary sources.

In addition to the primary sources, you must consult the following kinds of materials for your paper (at least three from each category; 6 total sources at minimum), and submit a bibliography that cites them in proper format (Chicago Style):

  1. scholarly journal articles (available, for example, on JSTOR)
  1. academic books

Some of your topics may require interdisciplinary materials, some of your books and articles can be chosen from the disciplines of History, Gender/Women’s Studies, Literary Criticism, Political Science, and Anthropology, among others.  If you read Spanish, feel free to use Spanish language sources.

Citations (footnotes and bibliography) should follow Chicago Style format.

Remember that in addition to your written papers, you will be presenting a one-minute oral presentation on your research.  For your oral presentations you must use one power-point slide with your name, title of the paper, and one image.  You must upload your power-point slide onto Blackboard by Friday, December 5th at 5:00.

The one-minute paper extravaganza will take place on the last day of class DEC 5th.
