About This Guide

Literature and Environment
or Ecocriticism

This guide was created to support Emory researchers interested in the study of literature and environment, or ecocriticism, a growing, interdisciplinary field that explores how humans relate to and represent the nonhuman natural world in literary and other texts.

The guide is divided into the following sections:

  • Ecocriticism - Introductory Texts
Provides links to anthologies and introductory works in ecocriticism as well as a list of major writers in the field; these resources are ideal for researchers beginning work in the study of literature and environment

  • Environmental Literature and Nature Writing
Features collections of literature as well as famous texts that focus on the representation of the natural world

  • Finding Scholarly Articles
Provides links to key databases for literary study as well as subscription-only and open-access journals that specialize in the study of literature and environment

  • Finding Books
A portal to discoverE, WorldCat, and LC subject headings to help find books relevant to ecocritical research

  • External Websites and Links
A collection of links to major professional organizations, projects, groups, and magazines pertaining to literature and environment and the environmental  humanities
