Finding Books at Emory

One method of finding print resources about Spanish film is to browse the online catalog. Follow these steps to browse:

  1. Open   DiscovereE the Emory Library Catalog, and chose Browse Search at the top of your screen.
  2. On the "Select the select the list to browse" pull down menu, choose "By Subject"
  3. Enter one of these subject headings to begin browsing books:
                  * Motion pictures - Spain
                  * Motion pictures - Spain - Catalogs
                  * Motion pictures - Spain - History
                  * Motion pictures - Spain - reviews


  1. Another type of Browse search On the "Select the select the list to browse" pull down menu, choose "By Library of Congress Call Number"
  2. Enter  PN 1993.5 S7

Another method is to browse the physical collection of books about Spanish film at Woodruff Library Library.

A  collection of recent essays written by top international scholars that thoroughly interrogates Spanish cinema from a variety of thematic, theoretical and historic perspectives

Spanish Cinema: A Student’s Guide – Barry Jordan and Mark Allison (2005)     PN 1993.5 S7

A good introduction to the subject. The authors provide a history of Spanish film, along with a discussion of film techniques, genres, and stars that are representative of the cinema of Spain.

Spanish Popular Cinema – Antonio Lázaro Reboll and Andrew Willis (2004)     PN1993.5 S7 S73 2004

A collection of essays on Spanish popular film, including such topics as historic epics and musicals during the early Franco era, child actress Marisol, Amenábar’s Abre los ojos, and the representation of the Spanish Civil War.

Spanish National Cinema – Núria Triana-Toribio (2003)   PN1993.5 S7 T753 2003

The history of Spanish film from 1896 through the late 1990’s and early 2000. Focuses on film as representative of Spain’s national identity and the concept of “Spanishness”.
