The Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences (Oscars.org) has a list of current nominees and past winners, including a searchable database.

The American Film Institute's 10 Top 10 site offers a handy distillation of their various 100 Years 100 Films lists. Access to the full lists requires registration on the AFI website.

Historically, the Cannes Film Festival has been a major forum for identifying talented filmmakers worldwide. Here is the full list of 2008 award winners, along with an archive of past winners.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Golden Globe Awards website also maintains lists of past and present nominees.
