What is digital microfilm?

Digital microfilm is a collection of documents that has been converted from microfilm into digital form.

The manner in which this material is presented and the features available varies by resource. The most basic is Proquest's Digital Microfilm collection. It consists of digital representations of the film, without any search capabilities or subject organization. Other digitized microfilm, like the resources highlighted above, have been put into database form and includes topic categories, facets, and search functions.
