FILM 403 - The Biz: Getting Started

About This Guide

This guide is provides an overview of resources that you can use to complete your research assignments for the class. It is not an exhuastive list of all the resources that are availble, it is mainly intended as a starting point.

If you encounter problems or simply want more guidance as you are working on the assignment, please feel free to contact me (James Steffen, the Film and Media Studies Librarian) or the staff at the Woodruff Library reference desk.

American Film Institute Catalog

American Film Institute Catalog

This should be your starting point for the assignment. It provides comprehensive filmographic information on over 45,000 films produced in the U.S. Entries for each film include cast and crew information, a detailed synopsis, background information about the production, and a bibliography that citces articles about the film in trade journals of the era. This last feature is especially useful, since it can point you toward articles that are otherwise difficult to track down.

Generally a more reliable reference resource than IMDb.
