Why this guide?

This guide is deigned to provide an overview of resources to assist you in the completion of your group team papers--which cover a variety of policy-related questions related to several Southesast Asian countries.  Resources include background information on countries, peer-reviewed articles and book resources/databases, policy and working papers,  from a variety of think tanks and policy institutes, current developments and news resources, and primary resources.

Regional Surveys

    South Asia (Reference DS331 .S647)

    Excellent survey, divided up by region, that outlines social, demographic, financial, economic, and cultural trends and developments in each country. A nice set of summary statistics are presented as is a directory of important government officials. An essential guide. Older editions are located in the stacks, with the same call numbers.  ALSO AVAILABLE ONLINE!!

    • Reference JF2011 .W67 2006 Alphabetically arranged by country and includes narrative on System of Government, Electoral System, Party System, Parties, National Prospects, and brief Further Reading entries.
    • Political Handbook of the World
      ESSENTIAL! Arranged alphabetically by country, includes a description of the country and an in-depth discussion of the politics and government of each country. Back issues in Stacks under call number JF37 .P61 (1975-most current). Electronic version is part of the CQ Political Reference Suite. Excellent!
    • Economist Country Reports & Economist.com
      ESSENTIAL! These are great guides to contemporary political, economic, and social forces in most countries as well as links to the latest news concerning political and economic developments. On the databases page, type in EIU, and then choose EIU Portal for access to these databases. Check out in particular, the Country Profiles, Viewswire, and Country Reports.
